June 13 Demonstration - Visit the Boat Builder's Shop as builder-in-residence Allison
Warner constructs a traditional guideboat. Demonstrations continue through August 19th, Friday-Tuesday, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

June 14 The No-Octane Regatta - The Adirondack Museum, Traditional Arts in Upstate New York, and the Town of Tupper Lake will host the Regatta at Tupper Lake on Little Wolf Lake. Bring your canoe, kayak, guideboat or rowboat for a day of fun!

June 20 Adirondack Songbirds - Take a naturalist's tour of the exquisite bird-life found throughout the Adirondack Park with Gerry Lemmo. Slide presentation begins at 7:00 p.m. in museum's auditorium. Presented in conjunction with the Fourth Annual Hamilton County Birding Festival sponsored by Hamilton County Tourism, www.hamiltoncounty.com, and Audubon New York.

July 2 Demonstration - Paddle making by Caleb Davis. Demonstrations continue through August 21st, Wednesday-Thursday, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. in the Boat Builder's Shop.

July 4-7 Demonstration - Traditional Blacksmithing by John Scarlett.

July 7 Behind-the-Scenes Tour of Collections Storage and Study Center - Take a special behind-the-scenes guided tour of the Collections Storage and Study Center from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Free to museum members; $10 for non-members. Register at the Membership Desk in the Visitor Center. Additional Behind-the-Scenes Tours will be held on July 14, 21, 28 and August 4, 11, and 25.

July 7 Writer in Residence - Join Andy Flynn, writer, photographer, editor, and
publisher as he works on a new article for his "Adirondack Attic" newspaper column. Flynn will answer questions about his projects and Adirondack history. The Writer in Residence program will repeat on July 14, 21, 28 and August 4 and 11.

July 7 Monday Evening Lecture - Great Camps of the Adirondacks, 25 Years Later, by Dr. Harvey Kaiser. Dr. Kaiser will present an illustrated lecture and discuss the resurgence in interest in the Great Camps and rustic architecture. 7:30 p.m. in museum's auditorium. Free to members; non-members $4.

July 10-14 Demonstration - Woodworking Techniques by Doug Holland.

July 14 Monday Evening Lecture - Batteries Included: The History, Present, and Future
of Electric Boating, by Charles Houghton. Elco, the Electric Launch Company, was founded 115 years ago. Houghton, the company's CEO, will describe why quiet, non-polluting, and beautiful electric boats are just the thing for messing about on 21st century waterways. 7:30 p.m. in museum's auditorium. July 21 Monday Evening Lecture - Into the Wild: William H.H. Murray and the Beginning of Camping in America. Dr. Terrence Young, professor at the California State University at Pomona, will explain how Reverend William H.H. Murray's book Adventures in the Wilderness helped transform the Adirondacks. 7:30 p.m. in museum's auditorium. Free to members; non-members $4.

July 22 Members Only Sale - Museum members receive a 30% discount at the museum store at Blue Mountain Lake from 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. A 40% discount will be offered to anyone becoming a member or to members who bring a new person to join during the sale. Erin Coe, Chief Curator of the Hyde Collection in Glens Falls, New York, will talk about the cultural legacy of the Pruyn Family, founders of the Hyde Collection. 7:30 p.m. in museum's auditorium. Aug 2 Dog Days of Summer - Enjoy an outing to the museum with your dog! Explore the history of working dogs in the Adirondacks while your pet cruises through a fun agility course and joins our pooch parade. The day will include many "doggy" displays and activities.

Aug 4 Brown Bag Lunch - Members Only Event. Mapping the Adirondacks. The Adirondack Museum Library owns the largest collection of historical Adirondack maps in the Adirondack Park. Aug 4 Monday Evening Lecture - Pagodas, Parasols, and Peacocks: Exoticism in Adirondack Camps, 1880-1920. Chief Curator Laura Rice will explore the Victorian fascination with the exotic and the ways it influenced interior decoration both at home and at camp. 7:30 p.m. in museum's auditorium. Aug 7 Harold K. Hochschild Award Presentation - A special recognition of the
accomplishments of a person or organization that has made significant contributions to history and cultural life in the Adirondack region.

Aug 7-11 Demonstration - Rustic Furniture Making by Barry Gregson and family.

Aug 10 Evening Barbecue and Picnic with Indian Lake - Enjoy a casual picnic on the museum's grounds and visit select exhibits. The Adirondack Museum will stay open until 8:00 p.m. as part of Indian Lake's weekend long celebration of its sesquicentennial. Bring your own picnic or purchase dinner from our patio barbecue. Free admission from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

Aug 11 Brown Bag Lunch - Members Only Event. Photography and the Art of Tourism. The historic photograph collection of the Adirondack Museum contains more than 70,000 photographic images documenting life in the region for over 150 years. Chief Curator Laura Rice presents a rare look at original photographs from the collection. Bring your lunch and hear the fascinating stories behind the images. Aug 11 Monday Evening Lecture - Protecting the Heart of the Adirondacks - The Nature Conservancy's Historic Finch Pruyn Acquisition. Dirk Bryant, Director of Conservation Programs at the Nature Conservancy's Adirondack Chapter, will provide a photo overview of Finch Pruyn and talk about TNC's plan to conserve the property while creating new community development opportunities. 7:30 p.m. in the museum's auditorium. Aug 14-18 Demonstration - Rag Rug Weaving by Lis Barsuglia-Madsen.

Aug 15-16 American Mountain Men - Enjoy demonstrations of shooting with period firearms, tomahawk and knife throwing, fire starting, primitive camping and cooking, along with hands-on family activities. Mountain Men participate in the encampment by invitation only.

Aug 18 Monday Evening Lecture - Researching Johnsburg's History: The Writing of "Echoes in These Mountains." Glenn L. Pearsall's book Echoes in These Mountains is the product of a 3-year investigation of over 50 historic sites in the Township of Johnsburg. Mr. Pearsall's talk will explore these sites and place them in larger historical context. 7:30 p.m. in the museum's auditorium. Free to members; non-members $4.

Sept 5 Rustic Fair Preview Benefit - An early rustic buying opportunity for ticket holders. Proceeds from the preview support the museum's many exhibits and programs. 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Rustic Preview tickets are $85 and can be purchased in advance at (518) 352-7311 ext. 119. More information to come about a joint benefit dinner at Great Camp Sagamore, www.sagamore.com. The museum will be closed to the general public in preparation for the Rustic Fair.

Sept 6-7 21st Annual Rustic Fair - The largest gathering of fine rustic furniture and furnishings in the Northeast. Artists from the United States and Canada exhibit and sell one-of-a-kind rustic designs. Enjoy delicious food, great music, and demonstrations. Sept 19 Antiques Show Preview Party and Benefit - The preview party and benefit offers a special chance to browse and shop for treasures before the Antiques Show opens to the general public. Enjoy scrumptious hors d'oeurves and beverages while supporting the museum's exhibits and programs. Tickets are $100 and can be purchased in advance by calling (518) 352-7311, ext. 119. Sept 20-21 Adirondack Antiques Weekend - An Antiques Show & Sale returns to the
Adirondack Museum, managed by Rod Lich, Inc. Fifty professional antiques dealers from many of the historic resort areas of the country will be featured, offering a diverse range of premier antique and vintage furnishings for camp, cabin, and collection. Also explore the Annual Adirondack Mountains Antiques Show in Indian Lake, N.Y. held at Byron Park on Saturday, September 20, 2008 from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. The show is a comprehensive source for rustic and camp furniture, hunting and fishing antiques, boats, taxidermy, and Native American artifacts.

Sept 27 A Sportsman's Paradise - Discover the rich history of Adirondack hunting, fishing, and guiding traditions. Meet area experts and hear tips for success in the region. Performances by Chris Shaw at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Oct 4-5 Adirondack Harvest Festival - Fall into fun at the Adirondack Museum's fourth annual Harvest Festival! Don't miss wagon rides and apple pressing demonstrations. Taste apple cider, paint pumpkins, and enjoy the beautiful fall colors.

Oct 11 Fishing Derby for Kids! -- Hook a trout to take home for a tasty dinner.

Oct 18 Community History Celebration - An afternoon dedicated to the Town of Indian
Lake's Sesquicentennial with food, music, and special presentations by Curator Hallie Bond about the history of Blue Mountain Lake and Marge Bruchac's The Indians of Indian Lake.

2008 Season:

The museum is open from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. seven days a week from May 23 through October 19, 2008. The museum will be closed on September 5, 2008 in preparation for the Annual Rustic Fair and on September 19, 2008 to prepare for the Adirondack Antiques Weekend. www.adkmuseum.org.
